Therapy for Teens, Adolescents, & Young Adults
Being a teenager is both joyful and really hard. Therapy offers room to slow down, process what’s happening in a non-judgemental and safe space.
My Approach
Therapy for teens looks different than therapy for adults. For teens, I cultivate a safe space where teenagers can relax and express their true selves. Therapy can be exploration of changing friendships, relationships with family members, romantic relationships, different identities, or any of the challenges that this stage of life brings.
I have experience working with teens who have experienced a variety of different struggles, including anxiety, tools for ADHD, depression, PTSD, disordered eating patterns, changing family structures, gender identity, and sexuality exploration. I aim to provide support, tools, and a new perspective about these challenges.
With all my clients I strive to bring a relaxed and playful energy, but with teens I build on this to increase their safety and feelings of ease to create a place where they know they can be their true self (yes, this often includes cussing and talking about social media).
Systems Work
When I work with teens I also work with the whole family (even if you aren’t always in session). Teens are at a stage in life where they are seeking independence and needing a safe, secure base to come home to. This looks like doing sessions with parents, so it’s not all on the teen to make changes.
